Fountain Pen Inks

Traditionally every high street stationer would have had bottles of fountain pen inks for sale in a range of colours. Today it is hard to find anything other than black and nothing resembling a bottle.

Pelikan 4001 is a range of quality fountain pen inks made in Germany. Available in Black, Blueblack, Violet, Brown, Green, Turquoise and Royal Blue.

Winsor and Newton Calligraphy inks are suitable for use in fountain pens and offer a rich pigmented ink. 14 colours including Violet, Crimson and Scarlet, Sepia, Indian Red. (The Gold, Silver, White and Matte Black are not suitable for fountain pens.
Most pen manufacturers recommend the use of their own brand of ink so that they can sell you their own replacement cartridges. Buying cartridges is a highly expensive way of buying ink (but, it must be admitted, convenient). Most fountain pen inks are dye based and will fade over time. All fountain pens 'breathe' and gradually dried ink may build up in the nib feeder. An occasional flush through with clear water is highly recommended to maintain a smooth flow of ink.
