'Copperplate' is a general term for a family of styles which grew out of classic italic. It is different from other calligraphy styles as it uses pressure on the pen to produce lines of varying width.
Copperplate nibs cannot be sharpened and a blunt nib will not make fine hairlines. Buy several nibs at a time and be ruthless about throwing them away.
