Calligraphy & Lettering Arts Society

Writing and lettering are everywhere around us and are a very visual part of the fabric of our everyday lives. The study of writing and lettering and the practice and finest execution of its skills can be carried to the highest levels of art. The art and cultures of China, Japan and the Islamic world place the value of their calligraphy on the highest plane. Historically, the Roman alphabet in the richness of its manifestations has a pedigree second to none. The origins go back into prehistory and ever since that amazing breakthrough into literacy, people have been getting and giving aesthetic pleasure by marrying their inventiveness and imagination with the limitless creative potential of the raw material, the letters of the alphabet. It is not only the content of the words but the way they have looked which has carried culture forwards.
